Solar Power in Cars -The Next Move in 21st Century Vehicles?

solar power in carsSolar power in cars is a form of utilizing renewable energy as we move to the future and contemplate that fossil fuels are finite and will soon be depleted. At present technology has brought in efficient alternatives with liquid petroleum gas and hybrid electric options, but one thing that is sure to become the way of the future is the development of solar power in cars.

The beauty of using solar power in cars is that it’s an energy source that will never run out. Using solar power in cars will operate in the same way that we use solar power in our homes, but storing energy from sunlight via solar cells, and transforming it into power that will run our vehicles.

In fact, solar power in cars is something that’s being developed by car companies already. Of course, these first generation developments will require some fine tuning before we are likely to see them in local show rooms, so that they are able to travel the sorts of distances that people will require with reasonable charging times.

One of the beauties of solar power in cars is that when it is fully developed, we will be able to recharge our vehicles as we are driving out and about.

At present, the Chinese car company DianZi has marketed a solar power that has the ability to travel a distance of ninety miles when it’s fully charged. The only negative is that it takes 30 hours to fully recharge. In competition, Toyota are also rumored to be developing hybrid solar power in cars, meaning that only around 30% of capacity will be solar power, while the balance will be made up of bio fuels. This is a primary development as Toyota strive to reach their goal of creating a fully solar powered car.

Of course, there are environmental issues that are forcing this move towards solar power in cars. We have all heard about how gas emissions from our vehicles are having impact upon the greenhouse effect, which is another good reason why a move to solar power in cars in imminent.

In recent times, we have seen a move towards government grants for solar powered energy to be installed in our homes to power our electricity, heating and hot water. It’s likely that when a good solar powered vehicle solution is created, the government will push towards their use with solar power grants for purchasing solar powered vehicles.

Before this move can take place, the industry needs to create a viable solution for solar power in cars. If technology advances so that we are able to use solar powered vehicles with the same convenience that our current cars provide, it’s far more likely that population will respond positively to them. When you think of the energy savings and cost savings that solar power in cars can potentially provide, people will happily move towards them in droves.

We are already benefiting from the advantages of solar power in our homes, and with committed development well under way, it will only be a short time before we’ll be driving around in vehicles fully powered by the sun.
